About the Prints

Black & White Silver Gelatin Prints
There is nothing quite so beautiful as a well-made black and white silver print. Images are printed on premium photographic papers and processed to archival standards. Practically all Silver Gelatin Prints are from large-format negatives, either 4x5", 8x10" or 11x14", so they are extremely sharp. There are several 35mm enlargements, also. Silver Gelatin Prints are offered in standard print sizes of 4" x 5" up to 20" x 24", depending on the image. Some images are offered in multiple sizes while others are offered in one size only.

All Silver Gelatin Prints are processed to archival standards and are mounted/matted on 4-ply museum board. 8-ply matting is available for an additional charge.

Color Fuji Crystal Archive Prints
All color images are printed to my specifications by West Coast Imaging on their Chromira LED printer. Negatives and chromes are drum-scanned at very high resolution and saved to a file. This file is then modified in Adobe Photoshop just as you would do in a traditional wet darkroom (spotting, burning/dodging, color/contrast control). The advantages to this process are that you only have to do it once, and there are less chemicals. The resulting file is saved and then output on the Chromira. Because there are no optics involved (enlarging lens), the resulting photo is sharp as a tack, corner to corner, at any size. Fuji Crystal Archive Prints are offered in sizes from 8" x 10" to 30" x 40".

All Fuji Crystal Archive Prints are mounted/matted on 4-ply museum board.  8-ply matting is available for an additional charge. Other mounting options are available due to the extremely glossy surface of this paper. Please email or call prior to ordering a print.

So, what is a "contact print"?
For those of you who don't know, a contact print is a photographic print made by exposing light through the negative while it is in tight contact with light-sensitive paper. A contact print is the ultimate expression of a negative as there are no further optics (enlarging lens) involved. Contact prints from large format negatives have a special look to them... you can almost walk into them as there is no loss of detail from the original negative. Try one... you'll like it!

Editioning
I have wrestled with this for a long time. I do not believe in setting a limit on the number of prints I make from any particular image, with the exception of "World Trade Center, 1981". That special image is limited to 110 prints (one for each floor in the towers) and is only available in one size. All other prints are "self-limiting". As an image sells more prints, the price increases at defined tier levels. The benefit of buying early is that the price is lower versus buying a print after it has become popular.

Pricing
In general prints are priced as follows. A tier includes prints of one image in all sizes.

Print Size Tier 1 (1-10) Tier 2 (11-25) Tier 3 (26-50) Tier 4 (50+)
4x5 contact print $250.00 $300.00 $375.00 $450.00
8x10 print $400.00 $500.00 $625.00 $775.00
11x14 print $600.00 $750.00 $950.00 $1200.00
16x20 print $800.00 $1000.00 $1250.00 $1500.00
